Pakistan and Bangladesh Boost Defence Cooperation During CJCSC Visit

Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to strengthen their defence and security cooperation. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza met Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.
Both sides discussed the evolving regional and global security environment in detail. The meeting highlighted the growing importance of rebuilding trust and promoting stability in South Asia. This Pakistan Bangladesh defence ties meeting reflected a new phase in bilateral engagement.

Talks Focus on Mutual Respect and Cooperation

General Mirza appreciated Pakistan’s longstanding friendship with Bangladesh. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to mutual respect and sovereign equality. Both sides expressed optimism about expanding defence collaboration and joint training programmes.
In addition, they agreed to enhance military-to-military engagement through exchange visits and strategic cooperation. The discussions also covered ways to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and peacekeeping coordination.

Visits and Broader Regional Context

During his stay, General Mirza visited the School of Infantry and Tactics in Sylhet. He interacted with faculty and students. Bangladesh’s civil and military leadership praised the professionalism and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism.
The visit followed improving ties between the two nations after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. Relations between Bangladesh and India have cooled since then, giving Islamabad and Dhaka an opportunity to reconnect.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also met Bangladesh’s leadership to promote regional cooperation and stronger bilateral relations.
