Dengue Outbreak in Karachi Claims Two More Lives Amid Rising Cases

Two more people have died from dengue in Karachi, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in Sindh to three. Health officials said the latest victims were a four-year-old girl and a man in his 50s. Both were residents of Karachi.
The young girl was brought from Korangi to the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology on October 17 in critical condition. Doctors admitted her to the intensive care unit immediately. Sadly, she passed away due to capillary leak syndrome, a severe complication linked to dengue.

Health Officials Investigate Recent Deaths

Dr. Mushtaq Ali Shah, Deputy Director General for Vector-Borne Diseases, confirmed both fatalities. He said investigations are underway to determine the exact causes of death. “Sometimes, patients suffer from other medical issues that worsen the infection,” he explained.
Dr. Shah also recalled a similar case in Hyderabad earlier this year. A pregnant woman who tested positive for dengue actually died from postpartum haemorrhage caused by low haemoglobin. “These findings show how important it is to increase public awareness,” he added.

Dengue Cases Rising Rapidly Across Sindh

Health experts are alarmed by the recent surge in dengue cases in Karachi and Hyderabad. The provincial health department reports 1,083 cases so far this year. However, data from several hospitals and labs suggest the real number may exceed 12,000 in just six weeks.
Dengue spreads through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Stagnant water and poor sanitation make it easier for the insects to breed. Officials urge people to remove standing water and clean their surroundings regularly. Community action is key to controlling the dengue outbreak in Karachi.
