Putin Unveils Poseidon Drone: Russia Tests New Nuclear Weapon
During a meeting with Ukraine war veterans on Wednesday, a new nuclear weapon was revealed by President Vladimir Putin. Over tea and cakes, discussion was made about the Poseidon, a nuclear-powered, nuclear-capable underwater drone.
Putin’s New Poseidon Weapon Is Revealed
“It is unmatched,” Putin declared, describing the weapon as unique. The Poseidon was said by a senior Russian MP to be capable of “putting entire states out of operation.”
International concern has been raised following the announcement, as global tensions regarding nuclear weapons continue to grow.
Poseidon and Burevestnik: Moscow’s Expanding Arsenal
When first introduced in 2018, the Poseidon was reported by Russian media to reach speeds of 200 km/h (120 mph). Constantly changing routes were said to make it almost impossible to intercept.
In addition, another advanced weapon, the Burevestnik, a nuclear-powered cruise missile was highlighted by Putin. Reports suggested that the missile had been tested only days before Poseidon’s announcement.
The Burevestnik was described by Putin as “a unique product, unmatched in the world.” It was noted that scientists were still classifying the weapon’s category.
As a result, these new tests were viewed as a major step in expanding Russia’s nuclear capabilities. Western analysts warned that such developments could intensify global security risks and contribute to a new arms race.
