He explains that early action, rather than waiting for pain to strike, is the key to spinal health. Simple habits like staying active, sleeping well, and drinking more water can make a real difference.
Move, Stretch, and Stay Hydrated
Dr. Baxter emphasizes that rest isn’t the solution. Gentle activities like walking, yoga, and stretching help keep the spine flexible and strong. He warns that sitting too long or avoiding exercise leads to stiffness and pain. “Movement is medicine,” he says.
Hydration also plays a vital role. The spinal discs are made mostly of water, and dehydration can cause them to lose flexibility. Dr. Baxter starts his day with a full glass of water and aims for three to four liters daily.
