Balochistan Government Blocks PTI Rally in Quetta Over Security Concerns
The Balochistan government has stopped the PTI rally in Quetta due to serious security concerns. Authorities said the current law and order situation makes it unsafe to hold large public gatherings. PTI and its allied opposition parties planned the event at the Hockey Ground on Friday, November 7, 2025.
Authorities Cite Rising Threats
Officials imposed Section 144 in Quetta, banning public assemblies of more than five people. They told the Balochistan High Court that the rally could not proceed because of possible terrorist attacks. This decision follows recent violence in the province.
In September, a deadly bombing rocked a Balochistan National Party (BNP) rally in Shahwani Stadium. The explosion killed at least 15 people and injured 72 others. It occurred about 45 minutes after the event ended, even though security teams deployed 112 personnel.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat warned BNP organizers about specific threats. He said “enemy elements aim to create unrest after their defeat in Marka-e-Haq.” He also noted that security agencies identified 22 active threat alerts across the province.
Leaders Respond and Offer Support
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced financial aid for victims. Families of the deceased will receive Rs1.5 million each, and those with minor injuries will get Rs200,000.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the bombing. He called it “a conspiracy by terrorists to spread chaos in Balochistan.”
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge all political parties to prioritize public safety over political activities.
