Germany Pledges $131 Million to Support Pakistan’s Green Future
Germany supports Pakistan with over $131 million in new development assistance this year. The funding will strengthen Pakistan’s efforts in clean energy, climate resilience, and sustainable growth.
The commitment was announced during the 2025 Pakistan Germany Bilateral Negotiations on Development Cooperation held in Islamabad. The event highlighted both nations’ shared goals for a greener and more inclusive future.
Focus on Energy and Reform
The negotiations were co-chaired by Muhammad Humair Karim, Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Christine Toetzke, Director General at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
German Ambassador Ina Lepel and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany Saqlain Syeda also attended the meeting. Their presence reflected the growing strength of the partnership between both countries.
Humair Karim thanked Germany for its consistent support in renewable energy, job creation, and social protection. He emphasized that Germany’s assistance aligns with Pakistan’s Economic Transformation Plan, URAAN Pakistan.
Christine Toetzke praised Pakistan’s ongoing reforms. She reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to help Pakistan address challenges like climate change, economic transformation, and social inclusion.
Commitment to Partnership
The new €114 million ($131.2 million) package combines both financial and technical support. It aims to enhance cooperation in energy transition, sustainable development, and community welfare.
At the end of the session, both leaders Karim and Toetzke signed the Summary Record of the negotiations. The signing formally confirmed Germany’s latest contribution and strengthened bilateral ties.
Therefore, the agreement symbolizes a renewed chapter in Pakistan-German relations. It also demonstrates Germany’s trust in Pakistan’s reform driven vision for a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
The next round of bilateral talks between the two countries will take place in Berlin in 2027, continuing their long term collaboration.
As a result, Pakistan can expect stronger cooperation in climate resilience, social support, and green innovation in the years ahead.
