M-6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway Project Moves Ahead with Fresh Financing and Partnerships
The government continues to advance the Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway project with new energy. Parliamentary Secretary for Communications Gul Asghar Khan shared key updates in the National Assembly on Friday. He said several financing and partnership models are now in place to ensure steady progress.
Khan stated that different sections of the project will be completed between 2028 and 2029. He emphasized that the motorway plays a vital role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), promoting growth and regional connectivity.
Progress and Financing Updates
Pakistan invited Chinese enterprises to join the bidding process for the project. Officials discussed the plan during the Joint Working Group meeting on September 3, 2024, and later reviewed it at the Joint Cooperation Committee session in Beijing on September 26, 2025.
The government is also holding advanced talks with the OPEC Fund and the Saudi Fund for Development. These agencies will jointly finance Section 3 from Naushehro Feroz to Ranipur. Board approvals are expected early next year.
Sections 1 and 2, from Hyderabad to Nawabshah, will follow the Public Private Partnership mode. Transaction advisors will soon be hired to support the process.
Renewed Commitment and Future Outlook
Khan reminded lawmakers that the National Highway Authority signed a PPP deal in December 2022. However, it ended the agreement in 2023 after the concessionaire failed to reach financial close.
Now, the Islamic Development Bank has approved financing for Sections 4 and 5. It issued a procurement notice in October 2025 after board approval in late September.
With these efforts, the Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway project continues to move forward with clear direction and renewed confidence.
