Pakistan Targets $200mn Meat Exports to Malaysia

Pakistan Targets $200mn Meat Exports to Malaysia

Pakistan has set a bold goal to raise its meat exports to Malaysia to $200 million. Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan has directed authorities to fast track actions that will strengthen the country’s meat export sector.
He shared the plan while chairing the third meeting of the Committee on Pakistan Malaysia Cooperation. During the session, he urged the team to ensure competitive pricing and reliable supply to the Malaysian market.
The minister also instructed the creation of a working group to submit a final report within a week. In addition, he emphasized consulting provincial governments, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, to achieve the export target.

Improving Competitiveness

Federal Minister for Food Security Rana Tanvir Hussain and SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan also attended the meeting. The committee discussed strategies to expand meat exports by focusing on cost efficiency, logistics, and market sustainability.
Discussions covered pricing strategies such as CNF (Cost & Freight) rates and comparisons with Indian suppliers. The goal is to keep Pakistan competitive while maintaining high quality standards from farm to slaughterhouse.
Officials also reviewed the importance of meeting Malaysia’s specific requirements. For example, exporters must supply buffaloes aged between 14 and 18 months. This age range ensures the meat’s quality and market acceptance.
In addition, participants explored solutions for challenges like market fluctuations and pricing pressure. They also discussed offering incentives to private sector exporters to encourage long term participation in the trade.

Upgrading the Supply Chain

The meeting also focused on improving efficiency across farms and slaughterhouses. Steps include reducing electricity costs, upgrading technology, and improving production systems. These measures aim to optimize operations and support exporters in meeting global standards.
Experts believe collaboration between Pakistan and Malaysia will create sustainable opportunities for both countries. Therefore, joint government support and active private sector involvement are essential.
As a result, Pakistan hopes to not only meet but exceed the $200 million target. The effort could strengthen the country’s global presence in the halal meat market.
