Thick Fog Helps Russian Troops Advance in Pokrovsk, Ukraine Battles to Hold City
Thick fog has allowed Russian troops to advance deeper into Pokrovsk, a key city in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian commanders say the weather is giving Russian forces an advantage as they move closer to encircling defenders.
According to Ukraine’s 7th Airborne Assault Corps, dense fog has limited visibility, helping Moscow intensify its assault on the ruined city. Russian soldiers are using the poor conditions to push forward without being easily targeted.
Ukraine’s Defense Under Pressure
Russian troops have been fighting for control of Pokrovsk for over a year. Ukraine’s military now estimates 300 to 500 Russian soldiers are operating inside the city. President Volodymyr Zelensky has called the situation “difficult,” saying Ukrainian units are still holding ground but under growing pressure.
Military analysts say Pokrovsk’s location makes it strategically important for both sides. Its capture could open a path for further Russian advances into Ukraine’s eastern defenses.
Situation Worsens in Zaporizhzhia
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported worsening conditions in the Zaporizhzhia region. He confirmed the loss of three settlements, describing the frontline situation as “significantly worsened.”
Despite the setbacks, Ukrainian commanders vow to resist Russian advances and regroup under better conditions. However, poor weather and limited visibility continue to challenge both sides, making operations unpredictable.
As winter approaches, both armies are bracing for a new phase of the conflict one shaped by harsh weather and shifting battlefield momentum.
