AI Bird Repelling System to Boost Flight Safety at Lahore Airport

Lahore International Airport is moving toward smarter and safer aviation operations by adopting an AI-powered Bird Repelling System. This advanced technology aims to reduce bird strike incidents, which remain a serious challenge for airports worldwide. By using intelligent automation, the airport will improve flight safety while ensuring smoother operations for airlines and passengers alike.

🤝 International Collaboration Behind the Project

The project brings together French surveillance technology leader ATERMES and Pakistan’s Imperial Electric Company (IEC). ATERMES secured the contract in partnership with IEC after the Pakistan Airports Authority approved the deployment. This collaboration highlights the growing role of international partnerships in delivering high-impact aviation safety solutions across the region.

🧠 Intelligent Detection and Automated Response

At the heart of the system is ATERMES’ SURICATE platform, which combines advanced sensors, optronics, and artificial intelligence. The system continuously monitors airfield areas and detects birds in real time using deep-learning algorithms. Once a threat appears, it automatically activates acoustic and laser deterrents to safely guide birds away from critical zones such as runways and taxiways.

🌱 Safety With Environmental Responsibility

Unlike traditional bird control methods that operate on fixed schedules, this AI-driven system responds only when needed. As a result, it reduces unnecessary noise, saves energy, and minimizes disturbance to wildlife. This targeted approach allows Lahore Airport to enhance safety while maintaining an environmentally responsible operational model.

🌍 A Regional First in Smart Aviation

With this deployment, Lahore International Airport will become the first in the region to use such an integrated and intelligent Bird Repelling System. Industry leaders believe the project sets a new benchmark for airport safety and sustainability. In addition, it reflects Pakistan’s increasing commitment to adopting smart infrastructure and advanced aviation technologies.
