Aid Reaches Yemen’s Most Vulnerable Women and Girls
A major crisis grips Yemen. Essential services have collapsed after years of conflict. Women and girls face extreme vulnerability. However, a vital partnership provides a lifeline. The European Union and UNFPA are working together. They deliver essential health and protection services. This effort has reached over 850,000 people since April 2024.
The needs in Yemen are immense. For example, three women die every day from pregnancy issues. Furthermore, 6.2 million women and girls lack protection services. An additional seven million people need mental health support. Therefore, this targeted aid is critically important.
Concrete Support Saves Lives
EU funding makes specific services possible. More than 600,000 women and girls accessed reproductive health care. They visited 26 supported facilities. In addition, nearly 60,000 women and girls found safe spaces. These spaces offer protection, legal aid, and psychosocial support.
The aid also includes specialized care. 40,000 people received trauma and mental health services. They accessed help at two dedicated centres. This partnership also trains local service providers. Consequently, responses become more effective and evidence-based.
Rapid Help for Displaced Families
The Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) provides immediate relief. UNFPA leads this EU-funded effort. It assists families forced to flee suddenly. The RRM has reached 160,000 displaced families within days. It delivers food, hygiene supplies, and cash assistance.
An Urgent Call for Continued Help
Officials emphasize the program’s life-saving impact. The EU states this partnership is “an investment in protecting lives.” UNFPA confirms the support “is saving lives every single day.” However, funding cuts now threaten these vital services. Needs across Yemen are still surging. As a result, UNFPA issues an urgent global appeal. International partners must continue and increase their support immediately.
