Air Transat Strike Notice Sparks Gradual Flight Suspensions

Air Transat strike concerns grew this week as the airline announced gradual flight suspensions. The company said the plan will start on Monday. It aims to avoid sudden issues if a full shutdown becomes necessary.

Air Transat Strike Notice Sparks Gradual Flight Suspensions

The pilots’ union issued a 72-hour strike notice on Sunday. As a result, the group warned that pilots will stop reporting to work on Wednesday. The union added that the move could still be avoided, however, if both sides reach a contract agreement in time.

Rising Tensions Between Airline and Pilots

Air Transat shared more details shortly after the strike notice. The airline said it would slowly wind down operations to reduce travel disruptions. For example, it plans to halt select flights ahead of Wednesday to protect passengers from last-minute cancellations.
The company also described the notice as “premature”. Leaders argued that negotiations remain active. They said both teams should focus on reaching fair terms instead of creating added pressure on travellers.
However, union representatives disagreed. They said pilots have waited long enough for improved conditions. In addition, they believe a clear deadline encourages meaningful progress at the table. The union stressed that there is still time for both sides to find common ground.

Hope for a Last-Minute Agreement

Travelers now wait for updates as talks continue. Many hope the two sides will resolve the dispute before Wednesday. Air Transat encouraged passengers to monitor official channels for changes.
Both groups agreed that avoiding a strike is the best outcome. Therefore, they plan to continue discussions through the final hours. The situation remains uncertain, but many believe negotiations can still succeed.
