Asia Cup Trophy Row Nears Resolution as ACC Sets Official Handover Date

Asia Cup Trophy Row Nears Resolution as ACC Sets Official Handover Date

The long-running Asia Cup trophy dispute is finally coming to an end. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed the official handover date next week in Colombo. This decision aims to close the confusion that followed the 2023 Asia Cup, co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Both boards had claimed the right to keep the trophy after the event. However, the ACC stepped in to settle the matter once and for all. Representatives from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will attend the ceremony.

ACC Brings Closure and Unity

The dispute began when scheduling and travel delays during the hybrid-format tournament caused uncertainty. As a result, both cricket boards made public claims about trophy ownership. The ACC later intervened to restore order and ensure fairness.
An ACC spokesperson said the council aims to maintain unity and sportsmanship among member nations. “The Asia Cup stands for regional harmony and competition,” the official shared. “We must not let off-field issues overshadow the true spirit of cricket.”
Cricket fans across Asia have welcomed the decision. They are glad the focus will now shift back to the players and upcoming tournaments. In addition, the ACC will discuss possible hosts for the 2025 Asia Cup, with India and Bangladesh among the contenders.
With the trophy dispute nearing its end, the cricketing spotlight will soon return to the pitch—where Asia’s finest will once again compete for continental glory.
