A woman who was stabbed in the neck during an unprovoked attack in Birmingham has sadly died, police confirmed.

Katie Fox, 34, was attacked on Smallbrook Queensway, near the Bullring shopping centre, on Friday evening. The incident happened shortly before 9:00 PM GMT, shocking residents and shoppers in the busy area.
Murder Charge Filed After Tragic Death
The suspect, Djeison Rafael, 21, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday. He was initially charged with attempted murder following the attack. However, after Ms Fox’s death, prosecutors updated the charge to murder.
Police described the assault as unprovoked and confirmed that officers responded within minutes. The area was quickly cordoned off for investigation.
In addition, forensic teams and detectives have been reviewing CCTV footage from the city centre. Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses who may have seen or recorded the incident.
Community Shock and Police Response
The tragedy has left the local community heartbroken. Many have placed flowers near the bus stop to honour Ms Fox’s memory.
Detectives thanked the public for their cooperation and urged anyone with information to come forward. “We are determined to get justice for Katie,” said a police spokesperson.
