Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster Surprise Launches on Steam and Xbox
Square Enix shadow-drops Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster on Steam and Xbox Series X/S with no prior announcement. Bravely Default Steam Xbox release arrives at a $39.99 price with 20% discount until March 26. The original version of Bravely Default was only available on Nintendo 3DS in 2012. Flying Fairy HD Remaster previously released as a Switch 2 launch title earlier. The game remains unavailable on PlayStation systems for unknown reasons. Bravely Default holds a significant place in RPG history for its approach. While franchises struggled in the seventh console generation, Bravely Default embraced old-school design. The game added modern flair that set the template for everything that followed.
An Effective Remaster for New Platforms
Flying Fairy HD Remaster doesn’t overhaul the game deeply but earns praise. It’s generally been considered an effective remaster by critics and players. The Game-Key Card physical release on Switch 2 has plenty of detractors. Digital versions on Steam and Xbox offer a more straightforward purchasing experience.
The lack of a PlayStation 5 release seems odd and disappointing to some. PlayStation is generally more of a major JRPG platform than Xbox. However, the multi-platform release opens up accessibility for many players. The Switch 2 represents a significant investment for potential players.
What This Means for the Series
This isn’t the first Bravely Default installment to go multi-platform overall. Bravely Default 2 is also available on Steam with current discounts. That game is 60% off at $23.99 until March 19. Bravely Second: End Layer remains trapped on Nintendo 3DS exclusively.
The surprise port suggests Square Enix may have multi-platform plans for the series. No official confirmation exists that the iconic RPG series will continue. Fans hope this means more Bravely Default games across platforms in future. For now, new audiences can experience this beloved RPG classic.
