Bungie Reveals Marathon Roadmap with Seasonal Wipes

Bungie Reveals Marathon Roadmap with Seasonal Wipes

Bungie unveils the first post-launch roadmap for its upcoming extraction shooter Marathon ahead of the March 5 release. Marathon seasonal roadmap details two initial seasons lasting approximately three months each. Season 1: Death is the First Step and Season 2: Nightfall will add free content for all players. New gear, Runner shells, zones, events, and more arrive with each season. However, each season ends with a mandatory progress wipe. All gear, contract progression, faction progression, and player levels reset completely. Only cosmetics carry over between seasons in this competitive model. Bungie designs Marathon to be challenging and intense through these resets.

Season 1 Details Revealed

Season 1 unlocks all six in-game factions, including previously locked Sekiguchi Genetics. All six Runner shells become playable at launch after being restricted in the Server Slam. Perimeter and Dire Marsh return alongside a third zone called Outpost. Outpost becomes available March 6 to players who reach Runner Level 12.
A fourth map called Cryo Archive requires community-wide unlocking efforts. This end-game zone is located on board the UESC Marathon in orbit. The Ranked playlist becomes available in the second half of March. Players must exfil with valuable loot to climb the Ranked ladder.

Season 2 Teases

Season 2: Nightfall introduces a nighttime variant of Dire Marsh. A mysterious new enemy seems to be teased in the description. UESC reinforcements flood in with corrupted text hinting at dangers. New features, content, and stories arrive alongside these environmental changes.
Bungie designed wipes to even the playing field for each Ranked season. No one can bring dominant loadouts into every single raid. The studio acknowledges wipes are divisive but essential for competitive integrity. An in-game justification will likely explain why your precious loot disappears.
