Cape Verde Launches Cvsky to Meet Unmet Domestic Travel Demand

Cape Verde Launches Cvsky to Meet Unmet Domestic Travel Demand

Cape Verde is taking major steps to improve its domestic air travel. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, recently launched a new state brand called Cvsky. This brand separates inter-island flights from international operations. The main goal is to stabilize domestic flight services first.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of this move. Domestic flights are fundamental for territorial cohesion. They also support the right to mobility and the economy. He stated there is a clear domestic market with unmet demand. Many people want to travel but face problems with seat availability. There is also significant pressure from the growing tourism sector.

Strong Growth in Domestic Traffic

The need for improved services is backed by strong data. Aircraft and passenger movements at Cape Verde’s airports grew by 16% in 2025. Domestic traffic recorded the largest percentage increase. It jumped by an impressive 34%. Domestic passenger movements surpassed 820,000 last year. This now represents nearly a quarter of all air traffic in the country. These official figures come from the Civil Aviation Agency.

The New Cvsky Operation

Cvsky is the brand of the new state company, Linhas Aéreas de Cabo Verde (LACV). The airline currently operates with two ATR 72-600 aircraft. Passengers can now buy tickets online at the official website, www.cvsky.cv. The board chairman, Manuel Lima, outlined the company’s objectives. The goal is to build a solid, reliable, and sustainable company. Priorities include strengthening the regularity and reliability of flights. Gradual and sustainable fleet expansion is also a key focus.
International flights will continue with the other state company. Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV) will handle these routes. TACV had temporarily managed domestic routes since 2024. This was after problems arose with the previous private concession. The new separation aims to bring stability and focus to both operations.
With Cvsky, Cape Verde is addressing a critical need. Reliable inter-island connectivity is essential for its people and economy. The government is now building a foundation for future growth in domestic aviation.
