China Lifts US Export Ban on Key Tech Metals Until 2026

China has paused its export ban to the United States on key industrial metals. These include gallium, germanium, and antimony, which are vital for semiconductors and other technologies.
The decision came from China’s commerce ministry on Sunday. The ministry said the suspension will last until November 27, 2026.
The restrictions had originally started in December 2024 and targeted “dual use” materials. These are goods that can serve both civilian and military purposes.
This policy shift follows a recent meeting between President Xi Jinping and former US President Donald Trump in South Korea on October 30. Both leaders agreed to ease some of the harsh trade measures that had strained relations for years.
At the peak of the trade war, both countries imposed heavy tariffs. These reached triple digit levels and disrupted global supply chains. As a result, industries worldwide faced higher costs and slower production.
However, China’s latest move signals a step toward rebuilding trust. It also shows Beijing’s willingness to stabilize trade with Washington.

Chip Exports Resume

In related news, China confirmed a partial resumption of Nexperia chip exports to Europe. This development has brought relief to global automakers who feared production delays.
The issue began in September when the Dutch government took control of Nexperia, citing national security concerns. The company, though based in the Netherlands, is owned by China’s Wingtech.
In response, China banned re exports of Nexperia chips. Automakers warned this could halt production since these chips power critical onboard systems.
However, Beijing has now eased those restrictions. Some chips will be exempt from the export ban, allowing trade to resume.
EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic welcomed the move. He said the simplified export process for Nexperia chips would take effect immediately.
Talks are still ongoing to create a stable and predictable trade framework between China and the EU. Germany’s Aumovio and Volkswagen have already resumed shipments, avoiding potential factory slowdowns.
This renewed cooperation suggests progress toward a more balanced tech trade landscape.
