CTD Officer Martyred in Peshawar Police Station Explosion

A Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer was martyred in Peshawar on Sunday morning. Two other policemen sustained injuries after an explosion at a CTD police station.
According to Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmad, the blast occurred inside the station’s ammunition room. Initial findings showed that old explosives stored in the facility detonated accidentally. The fire quickly spread to nearby ammunition, triggering more explosions.

Police Confirm It Was Not a Terrorist Attack

CCPO Ahmad confirmed that the incident did not appear to be a terrorist attack. “Preliminary assessment shows the explosion happened due to stored explosives,” the statement read.
Police and security forces immediately cordoned off the area. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), rescue teams, and firefighters launched operations to control the situation. “Clearance is going on,” the CCPO said.
A special investigation team from the CTD reached the site soon after the incident. The team began collecting evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas. Officials also recorded statements from officers who were present when the explosion occurred.

Damage and Ongoing Investigation

Police reported that part of the building, including its basement, collapsed due to the explosion. Rescue workers continued to search through the debris. Authorities confirmed that the injured officers were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The BDU and CTD teams are jointly investigating the cause of the explosion. Officials assured that the situation is under control and evidence collection will help prevent similar incidents in the future.
