Deltarune Chapter 5 Release Coming in Late 2026

J00072

Toby Fox has provided a fresh update on the development of Deltarune Chapter 5, clarifying that players should not expect the next installment in the beloved Undertale spinoff during the first half of 2026. While the chapter remains scheduled for next year, Fox indicated that the release window likely begins no earlier than July.
The first chapter of Deltarune debuted in 2018, followed by Chapter 2 in 2021. On June 5, 2025, Chapters 3 and 4 launched together alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, significantly advancing the story of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei. Chapter 5 was previously announced as part of the paid version of the game, with a tentative 2026 release date.
In his most recent newsletter, Fox explained that “the episode is well under way,” with many areas and enemy designs drafted in rough form. He hopes localization can begin before the end of 2025 but admitted that “Deltarune Chapter 5 will not be ready in the first half of 2026.” This narrows the window considerably, meaning the launch will occur in the latter half of the year.
Although disappointing for some, the timeline is far shorter than the waits between previous chapters. Players endured three years between Chapters 1 and 2, and four years before Chapters 3 and 4. If production continues at this pace, Fox suggested that Chapter 6 could be finished by 2027, with the complete game finalized in 2028, perfectly aligning with the 10-year anniversary of Deltarune’s beginning.
Fans are eagerly speculating about what Chapter 5 will reveal. Chapter 4’s ending hinted that Asgore, Undertale’s former antagonist, may assume a larger role, with theories suggesting his flower shop could transform into a Dark World. Until then, newcomers can experience Chapters 1 and 2 for free, while the paid version includes all current and upcoming chapters.
