Discord has introduced a staggering increase to server capacity, allowing up to 25 million users to join a single server. The update, rolled out September 3, marks one of the platform’s most ambitious technical upgrades.
Prior to July 2025, Discord servers capped at 500,000 users. That figure jumped to 2.5 million over the summer before this latest leap to 25 million. The scale is so vast that entire national populations—such as Sweden, Denmark, and Norway combined—could fit into one server.
Discord says the change reflects major backend upgrades designed to improve stability and performance, particularly for massive communities. Developers are expected to benefit as in-game integration with Discord grows, enabling global fanbases to congregate in single hubs.
Alongside the capacity boost, the update adds optimizations for the Android app on older devices, enhancements to the Discord Shop on mobile, and new permissions for pinning messages. A new camera toggle sound effect has also been introduced to improve user privacy.
While most servers will never approach the new cap, the move demonstrates Discord’s evolution from a gaming chat tool to one of the world’s largest communication platforms.
