Dubai RTA Opens New Bridge, Cuts Travel Time to 1 Minute

Dubai RTA Opens New Bridge, Cuts Travel Time to 1 Minute

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a major new bridge. It connects Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. This development dramatically slashes journey times. Commuters now travel the route in just one minute. Previously, the same trip took six minutes.

Where Does the New Bridge Run?

The structure spans 1,000 metres with two lanes. It can handle up to 3,000 vehicles per hour. The bridge channels traffic toward Al Karama and Deira. These are two of Dubai’s most densely populated districts. This is the third bridge in the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project. The first two opened earlier in February 2026.

A Strategic Upgrade for Dubai

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s Director General, called it a strategically significant upgrade. The roundabout sits at the convergence of five major roads. Therefore, it is a critical node in the traffic grid. Construction is progressing ahead of schedule. Overall completion has already surpassed 60%. Two additional bridges are under construction. They will open in October 2026.

Full Project Impact

Once all five bridges are operational, the transformation will be profound. Average delay at the roundabout will fall from 12 minutes to just 90 seconds. This represents a remarkable 92% reduction. The completed project will deliver free-flow traffic in multiple directions. For example, traffic will move smoothly from Sheikh Zayed Road towards 2nd December Street. It will also flow from Al Mustaqbal Street towards Sheikh Zayed Road southbound. The existing roundabout will become a signalised intersection. This will improve traffic management during peak hours.

Key Project Facts

Total bridge length across all five structures is 5,000 metres. The new bridge alone is 1,000 metres long. The two bridges opened in February total 2,000 metres. Their combined capacity is about 6,000 vehicles per hour. Projected intersection delay after completion is only 90 seconds. This is down significantly from 12 minutes.

Who Benefits from This Project?

More than half a million residents and visitors will benefit. The project enhances connectivity for key zones. These include the Dubai World Trade Centre and DIFC. Residential communities like Zabeel, Al Satwa, and Al Karama also gain better access. For daily commuters, the relief is immediate. For businesses, smoother roads mean easier client visits and faster logistics.
