Egypt and Sweden Deepen Health Ties, Discuss Support for Gaza Wounded

Egypt and Sweden are forging a stronger partnership in healthcare. The countries’ health ministers met in Cairo to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchanging expertise. A key focus was Egypt’s ongoing humanitarian effort to treat wounded Palestinians from Gaza.
Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar welcomed the Swedish delegation. He expressed Egypt’s interest in leveraging Sweden’s advanced healthcare experience. The goal is to improve the quality of services within Egypt’s health system.

Humanitarian Commitment to Gaza

Minister Abdel Ghaffar reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Gaza. This includes the continued medical treatment of wounded Palestinians in Egyptian hospitals. Egypt also provides urgent medical aid and supports Gaza’s health sector directly.
Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar detailed the ongoing assistance. It involves receiving patients in North Sinai and transferring them to specialized hospitals. Egypt provides vaccinations, advanced surgeries, and comprehensive care for these patients.

Focus on Digital Transformation and Reform

The discussions extended beyond immediate humanitarian aid. The two sides explored governance reforms and digital transformation in healthcare. This includes creating an integrated system linking facilities and employing artificial intelligence to boost efficiency.
They also discussed next steps following a recent health memorandum of understanding. The collaboration aims to support Egypt’s universal health insurance reforms. Key areas are hospital development, best-practice exchange, and capacity building.
The high-level meeting signals a deepening of ties. It combines immediate crisis response with long-term strategies to modernize and strengthen Egypt’s healthcare infrastructure through Swedish partnership.
