Islamabad: The government has issued a public advisory due to the risk of an inflammatory eye virus outbreak in the country. The advisory notes that patients with inflamed eyes may experience itching, discomfort, and discharge.
Authorities have alerted provinces about the potential for rapid spread of conjunctivitis, especially in flood-affected areas. The National Health Organization confirmed that the disease is caused by adenovirus and can easily transmit from person to person.
Symptoms in affected individuals include itching, tingling, eye discharge, and redness or pinkish discoloration of the eyes. Initial signs may appear within three to five days, while the full course of the infection can last up to three weeks.
