Fast Mpox Diagnosis Crucial as LGH Opens State-of-the-Art Treatment Center

Mpox is a contagious viral disease. We need better public awareness for prevention. Timely diagnosis is crucial. Effective treatment and comprehensive research are also necessary. Prof. Farooq Afzal, Principal of Amiruddin Medical College (AMC), shared these views. He spoke at an awareness symposium. The Department of Dermatology at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) organized the event. The title was “Mpox Unmasked: Prevention, Treatment & Research Frontiers.”

Combating Mpox Through Research

Prof. Afzal urged young doctors to join Mpox-related research. This will help curb the disease’s spread. It will also improve future treatment strategies. Advancements in medical science simplify managing infectious diseases. Senior medical professionals also addressed the symposium. They included Prof. Nudrat Sohail and LGH MS Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain. Dermatology HoD Prof. Atif Shehzad and others participated. They highlighted the virus’s nature and its transmission. In addition, they discussed symptoms and modern treatment approaches.
Mpox is a zoonotic virus. It transmits from animals to humans. The virus can spread through close physical contact. Furthermore, it spreads via skin lesions or contaminated materials. Respiratory droplets also transmit the virus. Prof. Afzal stressed that controlling Mpox requires collaboration. Healthcare institutions, doctors, and researchers must work together. Awareness programs protect public health.

Diagnosis and Public Safety Measures

Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain informed the participants about a new center. The Punjab government established a state-of-the-art Mpox treatment center at LGH. Senior doctors provide free medical services there. Therefore, early access to care is possible. He hopes the symposium encourages precautionary measures. Prof. Shehzad and other experts detailed common symptoms. These include fever, body aches, and muscle stiffness. Swollen lymph nodes and rashes are also common signs. Extreme fatigue can occur.
Medical specialists advised maintaining distance from infected people. People must practice hand hygiene. They should also cover skin lesions. Avoid contaminated clothing or bedding. Mild cases need symptomatic treatment. Severe cases may require antiviral medications. This depends on a doctor’s advice. They emphasized that a fast Mpox diagnosis is key. This action is crucial to prevent complications.
