Free Creature Collector Aniimo Announced for 2026

Developer Pawprint Studio announces its upcoming free-to-play open-world RPG. Aniimo free RPG will launch in 2026 on PC and Xbox Series X/S. The game focuses on collecting creatures called “aniimo” as a rookie researcher on the mystical island of Idyll. Players will unravel an ancient mystery while exploring a vast, seamless open world that encourages freedom and discovery.

Collect and ‘Twine’ with Creatures to Explore

The core gameplay revolves around catching various aniimo using items called aniipods. However, the unique “Twine” mechanic lets players instantly become the creature they have equipped. This ability is crucial for exploration, as different aniimo can fly, swim, or interact with the environment in specific ways. Consequently, players must strategically swap between creatures to navigate obstacles, solve puzzles, and unlock new areas.
Combat is real-time and offers a choice: you can command your aniimo from a distance or “Twine” to control them directly. This system adds significant tactical variety to encounters. Furthermore, progression is tied to researching the creatures you find, which rewards you with in-game items and currency.

A Dense World with a Cozy Homestead

The open world is filled with dungeons, puzzles, and environmental challenges that require specific aniimo abilities. The game also includes a “Homeland” mode, a cozy life-sim component where players can manage a farm, customize an RV, and breed aniimo in a personal space.
While the game is free-to-play, it will include microtransactions, though their impact remains to be seen. Early hands-on impressions praise the game’s surprising depth and original blend of creature collection, action, and exploration. Therefore, it presents a promising new option for fans of open-world adventures and creature collectors when it launches later this year.
