Free Entry to Xizang’s Iconic Sites, Including Potala Palace
In a significant push to attract visitors during the cooler months, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has launched a major tourism initiative. From now until March 15, 2026, entry fees have been waived for all state-designated A-level tourist attractions in the region.
This policy includes world-renowned cultural sites like the iconic Potala Palace in Lhasa. The four-month offer is part of the region’s established strategy to promote winter tourism and extend the travel season.
A Comprehensive Policy for Visitors and Businesses
The free-entry policy applies comprehensively to all A-level scenic spots across Xizang, with temples being the only noted exception. This allows travelers unprecedented access to explore the region’s profound cultural heritage and stunning winter landscapes, from the high-altitude city of Nagqu to the serene Butuo Lake.
Alongside visitor benefits, the regional government is implementing supportive measures for the local tourism industry. Travel agencies, transport companies, and related businesses will be eligible for preferential policies to ensure a robust service ecosystem during the promotion period.
An Invitation to Experience Winter’s Beauty
This annual initiative offers a unique and cost-effective opportunity for travelers. Visitors can now experience the majestic architecture of the Potala Palace and the region’s vast, snow-dusted plateaus without the barrier of entrance fees, making a winter journey to the “Roof of the World” more accessible than ever.
