Google to Invest $10B in India AI and Data Centre Hub
Google will invest $10 billion to build a data centre and AI hub in India. Officials from Andhra Pradesh confirmed the plan, marking the company’s biggest investment yet in the country.
The new Visakhapatnam campus will feature a 1-gigawatt data centre and advanced AI infrastructure. Google will also expand its fibre-optic network to improve connectivity across India. The state government expects to finalize a formal agreement soon.
Boost to AI and Tech Growth
Global tech giants are racing to expand AI infrastructure, and Google leads this momentum. The company aims to scale its AI and cloud capabilities to meet rising demand from businesses and governments.
Andhra Pradesh’s IT minister, Nara Lokesh, welcomed the initiative, calling it a major win for India’s digital economy. He said the project gives India a “strategic advantage” in the global tech race. Lokesh also noted that data now holds value comparable to oil.
The minister expects the investment to create thousands of jobs, boost local industries, and attract global investors. Local manufacturers of hardware, energy, and cooling systems will see strong growth as the project develops.
Sustainable Growth Focus
While excitement grows, experts urge the state to ensure environmental sustainability. Key concerns include energy sourcing, land use, and carbon emissions. The government plans to introduce transparent policies to protect local communities and maintain green standards.
Google’s investment signals strong confidence in India’s expanding digital ecosystem. It strengthens the country’s role in global AI research and data innovation. The Visakhapatnam project will accelerate infrastructure development, innovation, and economic transformation across South Asia.
