Govt Reviews Export Facilitation Scheme to Boost Textile Exports
The government has launched an Export Facilitation Review to address industry concerns. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the move. As a result, a technical committee will assess issues in the Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS). Exporters have raised concerns about the limited utilisation period. They say it restricts operational flexibility. Therefore, the committee will submit urgent recommendations to resolve these challenges.
Industry Leaders Highlight Key Concerns
The decision followed a high-level meeting led by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan. Senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce also attended. In addition, representatives from major textile bodies joined the discussion. These included the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, and Pakistan Textile Council. Officials from the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association, All Pakistan Bedsheets and Upholstery Manufacturers Association, and Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan also shared input. Industry leaders stressed the need for policy stability. They explained that long-term clarity builds investor confidence. Moreover, they urged swift action to protect Pakistan’s competitive edge in global markets.
Focus on Growth and Diversification
Minister Jam Kamal Khan showed optimism about export growth. He said coordinated efforts can deliver strong results. However, he encouraged the sector to act proactively.
He asked exporters to strengthen their presence in existing markets. At the same time, he advised them to explore new destinations. For example, shifting toward high-value finished products can raise earnings and reduce risk.
The minister also requested consolidated proposals from the apparel and textile sector. The ministry will classify them into immediate, budget linked, and structural reforms. Afterwards, officials will submit them to the prime minister for final review.
What This Means for Exporters
This Export Facilitation Review signals serious intent. It shows the government wants inclusive dialogue. As a result, exporters may see practical improvements soon. If implemented quickly, reforms can enhance flexibility and growth. Ultimately, a stronger textile sector will support jobs, foreign exchange earnings, and economic stability.
