Hamas Gaza Control Tightens Months After Ceasefire

Hamas Gaza control appears to be strengthening months after the ceasefire. Residents say the group has rebuilt its authority across much of the territory. As a result, daily life now reflects tighter oversight.
Last October, a US-backed truce paused the war with Israel. However, the conflict left deep scars on Gaza. Entire neighborhoods lay in ruins, and families faced displacement.
The fighting shattered organized units into smaller armed groups. In addition, many senior figures lost their lives. According to local officials, more than 72,000 people died during the war.

Security and Services Return

Four months later, many locals describe a visible shift. Police patrol streets again and monitor public spaces. Therefore, security forces now play a stronger role in daily routines.
Mohammed Diab, a Gaza activist, said the group regained control in most areas where it operates. He noted that people must visit its offices for identity papers and health services. Courts and municipal offices also fall under its oversight.
Some residents feel uneasy about the renewed authority. For example, security teams pursue those accused of collaboration or dissent. Critics argue this limits free expression.

Markets Feel the Pressure

At local markets, stallholders report steady patrols. They also describe strict enforcement of fees and rent. Consequently, many small vendors struggle to keep up.
One seller said officials demand 700 shekels each month. He explained that most traders cannot afford the payment. As a result, fear and frustration grow among business owners.
All traders interviewed asked to remain anonymous. They worry about possible consequences for speaking openly. Still, their accounts show how Hamas Gaza control shapes everyday life.
Looking ahead, questions remain about long-term plans. Observers wonder if leaders will give up weapons under the proposed peace framework. For now, communities in Gaza adapt to the reality around them.
