During the religious processions of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, Karachi Traffic Police have banned heavy vehicles, such as dumpers, trailers, oil tankers, and other large payload vehicles, from operating across the city for two days, Rabi-ul-Awal 11 and 12 (September 6–7). During the heavily crowded processions on key and linking highways, the measure attempts to maintain both public safety and efficient traffic flow. The decision comes after a concerning increase in traffic deaths in 2025, with 555 fatalities to already, including 169 involving heavy vehicles. Notably, the bulk of these fatalities were connected to dumper trucks, trailers, water tankers, and buses.
This action comes after a concerning increase in deadly traffic accidents in Karachi this year, with at least 555 fatalities from traffic accidents in 2025. These tragedies have been largely caused by heavy trucks; 169 people have died in these vehicles, including buses (35), dumpers (34), trailers (63), and water tankers (37). Authorities are asking people to refrain from needless travel during the prohibition and are sending out more traffic officers to oversee processions in reaction to these losses. It’s a component of a larger initiative to improve traffic safety and stop more accidents throughout the holiday season.
