Heavy Winter Rain Hits Karachi as Weather Experts Warn of Chilly Days Ahead
Pakistan’s port city Karachi experienced heavy winter showers on Thursday, as weather experts predicted earlier. The rain brought cool temperatures, misty skies, and strong winds across many neighborhoods. As a result, residents felt a sudden drop in warmth.
Rainfall began under the influence of an active westerly system near the coastline. Areas such as Surjani Town, Musharraf Colony, and Hub received rain first. However, showers soon spread across wider sections of the city.
Rain Spreads Across Karachi
Several localities reported rainfall, including North Karachi, Malir, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Scheme 33, and Dalmia. Drizzling also continued in PECHS and nearby areas. Therefore, traffic slowed and visibility dropped in some places.
According to weather experts, temperatures will fall further after the rain. The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain and gusty winds. These conditions may affect Karachi, Jamshoro, Thatta, Hyderabad, and surrounding districts within hours.
Forecast and Safety Advisory
The Met Office expects dusty winds and thundershowers from Friday through Sunday. Consequently, chilly conditions may intensify across the region. Weather analyst Jawad Memon shared additional details.
He said wind speeds may range between 25 and 40 kilometers per hour. Moreover, most areas could receive eight to 22 millimeters of rain. He also noted a 20 to 30 percent chance of hailstorms in isolated locations.
Meanwhile, K-Electric urged residents to stay alert during the weather spell. The utility advised caution while using electrical appliances during rain and strong winds. Unsafe usage near standing water can cause serious accidents.
The company also warned people to keep distance from broken wires. Citizens should avoid touching television or internet cables. Therefore, officials stressed safety awareness to prevent injuries and disruptions.
