ICEHOTEL 36 Opens in Sweden: A Frozen Wonderland of Art and Adventure

A legendary frozen hotel has returned for another magical winter. ICEHOTEL 36 has opened its doors in the village of Jukkasjärvi, Swedish Lapland. This is the 36th edition of the iconic hotel built entirely from ice and snow. Therefore, it revives a beautiful Arctic tradition that draws adventurous travelers from across the globe.

An Ephemeral Masterpiece of Ice and Art

The hotel is a true architectural marvel born from the local environment. It is constructed using crystal-clear ice blocks harvested from the nearby Torne River. Furthermore, artists use a special “snice” mixture of snow and ice to shape its walls and ceilings. As a result, the entire structure is designed to melt back into the river with the spring thaw, leaving no permanent trace.
This year’s edition covers 2,800 square metres. It features 12 individually themed art suites designed by 33 artists from 12 different countries. Moreover, stunning installations include a full-scale ice piano and creatively named suites like “Spaghettification.” Consequently, every corridor and room is a unique gallery of frozen art.

A Complete Sub-Zero Arctic Experience

Guests can spend the night in these icy suites, sleeping on beds insulated with reindeer hides and thermal sleeping bags. Nearby heated facilities provide all necessary comforts. In addition, the hotel offers a full program of authentic Arctic adventures, from dog sledding under the Northern Lights to traditional wilderness saunas.
Dining is also part of the immersive experience. The restaurant serves a four-course menu featuring local ingredients like reindeer and cloudberries. Some dishes are even presented on plates of ice, perfectly complementing the frozen wonderland setting.
ICEHOTEL 36 is more than just a place to sleep. It is a profound celebration of winter, art, and the extreme beauty of the Arctic. It offers a once-in-a-lifetime journey into a living, breathing sculpture made of ice.
