India Brazil Resource Deal Cuts China Dependence
India and Brazil signed the India Brazil Resource Deal to expand cooperation in critical minerals. This step aims to reduce reliance on China. As a result, both countries want safer industrial supply chains. Narendra Modi described the agreement as a major milestone. He believes it will improve long term material access. Therefore, industries may face fewer supply disruptions. Recently, Modi met with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in New Delhi. They discussed trade, investment, and strategic cooperation. Global Demand for Rare Earth Minerals
At present, China leads global rare earth mining and processing. Moreover, recent export controls increased global concerns. Because of this, countries now seek alternative suppliers. For example, the United States is working to reduce dependency. As a result, critical minerals have become part of global competition. Meanwhile, Brazil holds vast mineral reserves. These resources support electric vehicles, solar panels, and smartphones. In addition, they help produce jet engines and advanced defense systems.
Economic Growth Through Resource Access
India continues expanding its industrial infrastructure quickly. Therefore, stable mineral access remains essential for growth. This agreement can strengthen economic performance and defense production.
Although full details remain undisclosed, New Delhi wants diverse supply sources. Experts from the Council on Energy, Environment and Water mentioned similar partnerships. For instance, India engaged with France and the European Union on mineral cooperation.
Trade Expansion Plans for Five Years
Alongside this agreement, both countries signed nine additional deals. These include digital cooperation and health sector partnerships. Modi also called Brazil India’s key trade partner in Latin America. Furthermore, both sides plan to expand bilateral trade beyond 20 billion dollars. This target reflects growing economic trust and shared development goals.
