‘India, Pakistan may not host hockey events unless normal political ties established’

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has indicated that India and Pakistan may not be considered to host major international hockey tournaments unless normal diplomatic relations between the two countries are restored. This comes amid continued political tensions that have impacted sporting exchanges between the two neighbors.

While both nations have a rich history in hockey — with multiple Olympic and World Cup titles between them — the strained relations have led to limited bilateral sporting engagement. Hosting an international tournament requires smooth coordination, including visa clearances and cross-border travel, which remains challenging under current circumstances.

FIH officials have stated that the organization prioritizes the safety and ease of participation for all competing nations. Until the political climate allows for guaranteed smooth participation, including the assurance that all teams will be granted visas and safe passage, awarding hosting rights to either India or Pakistan remains unlikely.
