Indonesia’s Tourism and Environment Ministries Partner for Sustainable Tourism Push
In a significant move to align tourism growth with environmental protection, two key Indonesian ministries have joined forces. The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment have signed a formal cooperation agreement. This partnership aims to strengthen environmental management within the tourism sector while unlocking its economic potential.
A Formal Response to Traveler Demand
The agreement was signed by Deputy Ministers Rizki Handayani Mustafa (Tourism) and Rasio Ridho Sani (Environment). It focuses on improving inter-agency coordination and enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesia’s national tourism industry. The initiative directly responds to the rising global demand for sustainable and eco-friendly travel experiences.
Launching a Joint Task Force for Action
A joint task force will be established to develop practical sustainability guidelines for tourism businesses. This team will also refine evaluation criteria and provide technical guidance to improve environmental performance across the sector. Additional measures include outreach programs, training, and better data-sharing between the ministries.
Building a Sustainable Tourism Ecosystem
Deputy Minister Rasio confirmed his ministry’s commitment to advancing eco-friendly tourism. The cooperation builds upon a previous memorandum of understanding to accelerate concrete action. The goal is to ensure consistent standards and build a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem for Indonesia’s future.
