Interest-free Expansion Plan: Punjab Housing Program Now Supports Joint Families
Punjab has expanded its flagship housing initiative to support joint families across the province. Through the interest-free expansion option, families can now extend their existing homes with easy installments. As a result, the program supports shared living while easing housing pressure.
The initiative reflects Punjab’s focus on social harmony and inclusive growth. At the same time, it responds to rising housing needs. Therefore, the updated policy blends tradition with modern development goals.
Support for Joint Families
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif described the move as a golden gift for the people of Punjab. She said the government wants to strengthen family bonds through better housing. Moreover, the policy helps families stay together with dignity and comfort.
Under the expanded program, joint families can receive interest-free loans. These loans
allow them to add rooms or improve structures. For example, families can build additional floors for privacy and safety.
The government has also set an ambitious housing target. It plans to complete 160,000 homes by June 2026. In addition, families without land will receive plots under the Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar scheme.
Progress and Future Targets
In the first phase, authorities will allot 1,534 plots through a lottery. These plots are located in Jhelum, Kasur, Faisalabad, and Lodhran. Therefore, the process ensures fairness and transparency.
The chief minister has directed officials to speed up installment releases. She has also ordered increased funding for ongoing projects. In addition, new policies will protect families if a primary applicant passes away.
According to official data, more than 1.88 million users have registered so far. Around 1.06 million applicants are currently seeking benefits. Meanwhile, authorities have completed 67,197 homes and continue work on 53,843 more.
Loan disbursements have reached Rs164.66 billion. However, the recovery rate stands strong at 99 percent. As a result, the interest-free expansion plan shows both social impact and financial stability.
