Islamabad Jail Transfer Plan for Imran Khan Raises Health Concerns
Imran Khan’s Islamabad Jail Transfer has become a major national issue. The federal government says it will move the former prime minister once Islamabad completes a new prison. Many people also continue to raise concerns about his health in custody.
Officials shared this update during a passing-out ceremony of the Islamabad Police. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the capital will finally have its own jail facility. As a result, Imran Khan may soon leave Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
New Jail Plan in Islamabad
Mohsin Naqvi announced that Islamabad will complete the new prison within two months. He explained that the jail will include full medical services. In addition, he said authorities will handle prisoner transfers smoothly.
Naqvi stated that an Islamabad court sentenced Imran Khan. Therefore, the government plans to shift him to the new jail after construction ends. Imran Khan has stayed in Adiala Jail since September 2023.
However, the decision has sparked debate across the country. Supporters and legal observers want clarity about his treatment. People also demand fair access to health care inside prison.
Health Concerns and Court Assurances
Advocate Salman Safdar met Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday. He visited as the Supreme Court’s amicus curiae. A day later, he submitted a detailed seven-page report on prison conditions.
Safdar quoted Imran Khan saying he has only 15 percent vision in his right eye. He added that treatment, including an injection, has not improved the problem. As a result, concern about his eyesight has grown quickly.
Meanwhile, the federal government assured the Supreme Court it will allow specialist eye doctors to examine him again. Officials also promised telephonic contact with his sons, Kasim and Sulaiman.
Separately, Naqvi praised Islamabad Police for launching a new counter-terrorism force. He said officers completed training through strong day-and-night effort. The minister called it an important step for national security.
