Islamabad Security Alert: Routes Closed as Protests Erupt Over Iran Strikes

Islamabad security alert remained in place on Friday as authorities tightened security across the capital. Officials closed several routes leading to the Red Zone ahead of planned protests. Religious and political groups organized demonstrations against recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Authorities deployed thousands of police officers to maintain order. Organizers also planned rallies across Pakistan to show solidarity with Iran. As a result, security forces increased monitoring in major cities. The demonstrations were organized by Jamaat-i-Islami, the Shia Ulema Council, and the Ittehad-e-Ummat Forum.

Security Measures and Road Closures in Islamabad

Authorities enforced the Islamabad security alert to control large gatherings near sensitive areas. More than 2,000 police and traffic officers were deployed across the capital. In addition, anti-riot forces remained stationed inside the Red Zone. Officials also kept Section 144 in force throughout the city. This measure restricts large public gatherings and helps authorities maintain law and order.
Police allowed entry into the Red Zone through limited routes. Margalla Road and roads near the Marriott Hotel remained open for controlled access. However, authorities closed all other entry points. Traffic officials issued several travel advisories. For example, Fazal-e-Haq Road towards China Chowk remained closed. Commuters were advised to use Jinnah Avenue instead.
Authorities also diverted traffic from Luqman Hakim Road near Polyclinic and Lal Quarter Chowk. Drivers travelling from G-6 to F-6 used the China Chowk underpass or Seventh Avenue. Vehicles coming from Club Road and Bhara Kahu followed routes through Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, and Margalla Road.

Protests Spread to Karachi

Protests also disrupted traffic in Karachi on Friday. Demonstrators marched along MA Jinnah Road to condemn the attacks on Iran. The rally started near Khawaja Asna Ashari Mosque and moved toward Native Jetty Bridge.Authorities closed MA Jinnah Road between Kharadar Police Station and Tower. Traffic police diverted vehicles toward Yaqoobia Mosque to ease congestion.
Officials also closed Abu al-Isphani Road between Al-Asif Square and Paradise. Traffic from Maskan Chowrangi moved through Paradise to Faria Chowk, while vehicles from Al-Asif used the service road.Earlier, Karachi Police issued a security alert for Friday prayers. Officers in uniform and plain clothes were deployed across major roads and mosques. Authorities said the Islamabad security alert and similar measures aim to maintain public safety during nationwide demonstrations.
