Italy Opens Legal Jobs Quota for Pakistani Workers
Italy has opened a new legal route to Europe through an Italy jobs quota for Pakistani workers. The move allows 10,500 Pakistanis to work in Italy over three years. Therefore, officials see it as a step toward safer migration.
Under the plan, Italy will accept 3,500 Pakistani workers each year. The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis confirmed the arrangement. As a result, workers can access Europe through official channels.
Of the yearly total, Italy will hire 1,500 workers under seasonal schemes. In addition, authorities will place 2,000 workers in non-seasonal roles. This structure offers flexibility across industries.
A Shift Toward Legal Migration
Italy has become the first European country to offer Pakistan a quota-based labour pathway. Officials believe this step could inspire similar agreements. However, the demand for overseas jobs continues to rise.
Nearly 2.9 million Pakistanis left the country in the past three years. Low wages, inflation, and unemployment continue to push people abroad. According to official data, over one million workers migrated in a single year.
Illegal migration has also surged. For example, attempts to reach Europe rose sharply in recent years. Many migrants risk dangerous sea crossings and exploitation by smugglers.
Jobs and Economic Impact
The Italy jobs quota focuses on skilled and semi-skilled workers. Available roles include welders, technicians, nurses, chefs, and farm workers. Therefore, the scheme aligns with Italy’s labour shortages.
Punjab is expected to benefit the most from the deal. The province has sent millions of workers abroad since 1981. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Azad Kashmir also contribute large numbers.
Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain called the agreement a major milestone. He said sustained diplomacy helped secure the quota. In conclusion, officials hope the deal will reduce illegal migration and strengthen economic ties.
