Judge Rules Detention Unlawful in Kilmar Abrego Garcia Case

A federal judge issued an unlawful detention ruling in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. His lawyer says the ruling confirms he was held without proper legal authority. As a result, he has now been released from jail.

Judge’s Decision Blocks Deportation for Now

The court found that the government lacked a valid removal order for him. Therefore, officials cannot deport him “at this juncture.” This decision gives him temporary protection while the case continues. In addition, it raises fresh questions about how similar cases are handled.
Mr Abrego Garcia has lived in Maryland for many years. He is married to an American citizen and works to support his family. However, he originally entered the United States from El Salvador as a teenager without legal status. His case has drawn attention because of a series of unusual events.

A Complicated Legal Journey

He was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March. Officials later brought him back to the US to face criminal charges. The error sparked frustration among advocates, who argued he should never have been removed in the first place. For example, they say his long-term ties should have been considered sooner.
Thursday’s court ruling gives him a temporary win. However, it may not be the final outcome. The US justice department is expected to appeal. As a result, his future remains uncertain. His legal team says they are preparing for the next steps.
Supporters believe the ruling shows the need for careful review of immigration cases. They argue that clear procedures can prevent harmful mistakes. In addition, they hope the decision will offer guidance for others in similar situations.
For now, Mr Abrego Garcia remains with his family. He says he is grateful for the chance to continue fighting his case in the US.
