Karachi Issues New SOPs for Roadside Tea Shops
Karachi has introduced new rules to improve how roadside tea shops and small hotels operate. The city administration announced the Karachi Tea Shop SOPs to ensure better traffic movement and safer public spaces. Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi shared the new guidelines after several reviews of street activity.
New SOPs Aim for Better Public Safety
The Commissioner explained that the updated SOPs focus on clear walkways and smoother traffic flow. He stated that every shop must follow these rules to keep the streets accessible. In addition, the administration wants each location to maintain safer cooking and serving practices.
Hotel and tea stall owners now need to submit affidavits confirming they will follow the SOPs. This step aims to make compliance easier to monitor. A committee led by an Additional Commissioner will review each request. The committee will also decide whether a sealed shop can reopen after meeting all conditions
Businesses Pledge Support for Implementation
Local hotel owners and the Hotels Association have welcomed the new move. They said they will fully support the administration and follow every guideline. Their cooperation shows a shared goal of keeping roadside food businesses lawful and organised. Therefore, the city expects fewer disruptions for pedestrians and motorists.
The administration believes these new SOPs will help Karachi manage its fast-growing food culture. Street tea stalls remain popular across the city. However, the administration wants them to grow in an organised and safe way. As a result, officials expect cleaner surroundings, improved traffic, and safer service environments.
Karachi’s leadership encouraged all owners to understand the guidelines carefully. They also advised shopkeepers to seek approval early if they need changes to their setup. This approach aims to support both public safety and small business activity.
