Karachi Transformation Plan Approved for World-Class Development

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the Karachi Transformation Plan. The plan focuses on modern infrastructure and smoother mobility across the city. As a result, officials aim to ease traffic pressure and upgrade civic facilities.
The Sindh government will execute the plan with the Frontier Works Organisation. Moreover, leaders describe the initiative as a step toward world-class urban development. The approval came during a joint meeting at CM House.

Priority projects for smoother connectivity

The chief minister approved six priority schemes worth Rs10.72 billion. These projects will start immediately to deliver quick relief. Therefore, the government selected roads with heavy daily traffic.
Key projects include rehabilitating the road from M-9 Motorway to Malir-15. This route connects through Jinnah Avenue and Sharea Faisal. In addition, authorities will build a right-turn underpass at Malir Halt.
Another major scheme includes a flyover from Airport Road to Star Gate. This structure will improve access to the airport corridor. Similarly, officials approved rehabilitation of the Y-Junction to Machli Chowk road.
The plan also includes a flyover at Sohrab Goth. This area serves as Karachi’s main intercity entry point. As a result, traffic flow should improve for commuters and freight vehicles.

Funding and long-term urban vision

Mayor Murtaza Wahab and LG Minister Nasir Shah explained the selection process. They confirmed teams used field visits and stakeholder input. Therefore, the schemes target real traffic and connectivity problems.
The FWO, KMC, and Local Government Department will finalise designs by February. Construction work will begin in March. Meanwhile, utility shifting will happen alongside planning.
The Sindh government also proposed a Rs84.796 billion grant. This fund covers 523 schemes across Karachi. These include roads, flyovers, parks, and beautification projects.
In addition, the federal government approved Rs26.282 billion under PSDP. Altogether, the funding supports a sustainable and resilient Karachi.
