Keokradong Hill Reopens, Boosting Bandarban’s Tourism

K00113

Keokradong Hill, one of Bangladesh’s highest peaks, reopens to visitors on October 1, 2025. The spot has been closed for three years. Its reopening promises to lift tourism in Bandarban district.
Authorities closed access due to safety concerns and local unrest. The area covers upazilas like Ruma, Thanchi, and Rowangchhari. Now, officials say public safety has improved. Therefore, they decided to restore visits.
The Bandarban administration cleaned the Meghla tourist centre in advance. They also built a paved road from Ruma’s Bagalek to Keokradong. The Army Engineering Division handled the infrastructure work.
Tourists—domestic and foreign—can now plan to visit safe tourist spots in Bandarban. From October 1, Keokradong will join other reopened areas. This can help hotels, guides, and local vendors.
Local businesses expect new growth. Picnic spots, guest-houses, eateries all may benefit. Visitors often search for high-altitude views and adventure. Keokradong offers both. In addition, the region’s natural beauty may attract more outdoors lovers.
Though the reopening is good news, some hurdles remain. Not all upazilas are open. Administrators keep restrictions in places with ongoing security risks. Tourists must check local guidance before traveling.
Also, infrastructure needs upkeep. Clear signage, safety services, and clean rest areas will matter. As a result, success depends on planning and coordination among authorities and communities.
If things go well, Keokradong’s reopening could mark a sustainable tourism revival in Bandarban. It might bring long-term benefits rather than just a seasonal boost.
