KP Solar Scheme Launched for 120,000 Homes in Merged Districts
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched the KP solar scheme to expand clean energy access in merged districts. The project will support 120,000 households with reliable solar power. As a result, many families will reduce dependence on costly electricity.
The provincial government will fully fund the project with a budget of Rs13 billion. Each household will receive a two-kilowatt solar system. The package includes an inverter and essential accessories.
Officials said the plan focuses on long-term energy relief. Therefore, it targets areas with limited power infrastructure. The initiative also supports inclusive and sustainable development.
Solar kits, cost, and covered districts
Under the program, each solar system will cost between Rs2.55 lakh and Rs3 lakh. However, households will not need to manage procurement. The government will oversee selection and installation.
The scheme will cover Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Mohmand, and North and South Waziristan. These districts often face power shortages. Hence, solar energy offers a practical solution.
The Bank of Khyber will appoint vendors for the project. In addition, the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization will provide technical oversight. This setup aims to ensure quality and efficiency.
Payment options and implementation model
The scheme offers two options for beneficiaries. First, a refundable plan allows households to pay in 36 monthly installments. Each installment will be around Rs8,300.
Second, a non-refundable option provides solar systems free of cost. This category supports families with greater financial needs. Therefore, the model remains inclusive.
The Bank of Khyber will manage the financial structure. This approach improves transparency and sustainability. In addition, it simplifies access for residents.
Officials believe the project will boost economic stability. It may also reduce energy poverty in the region. Overall, the KP solar scheme reflects a shift toward renewable solutions and community-focused planning.
