Lahore Announces Safe Basant Festival Plan with Key Rules for 2025

The Lahore High Court has received a new security plan for Basant. Punjab police submitted this 27-point strategy. Their goal is to ensure secure Basant celebrations this year.
The government will allow the festival only in Lahore. Therefore, celebrations can only occur on February 6, 7, and 8. However, kite flying remains banned across the rest of Punjab.

Rules for Festival Safety

Authorities will enforce strict kite-flying regulations. They will permit only approved cotton thread. For example, dangerous chemical or metallic strings are completely banned. In addition, the government warns manufacturers and suppliers. Preparing kites outside the allowed dates is illegal. As a result, police will take legal action against violators.
Officials must implement the Kite Flying Regulations Bill 2025. All district commissioners have received these orders. Moreover, they must submit compliance reports to the Home Department. This step confirms public safety during the festival.

Transport and Public Movement Plans

The plan also focuses on safe public movement. Organizers will deploy 5,000 free rickshaws. These rickshaws will facilitate transport across Lahore. Furthermore, specific rules will govern motorcycle riders in designated red zones.
Riders and their passengers must wear helmets. However, motorcycles without antennas cannot enter these secure areas. Quick response teams will also remain on standby. These teams can handle any emergencies during the festivities.
This comprehensive plan addresses serious public safety concerns. Past illegal kite flying has caused injuries and casualties. The new measures aim to prevent these tragedies. Consequently, Lahore hopes for a joyful and secure event for every participant.
