Listen to Wales: New ‘Chill Cymru’ Meditation Podcast Promotes Mindful Travel

Visit Wales is inviting the world to experience the country through sound. It has launched a new guided meditation podcast series called “Chill Cymru.” This innovative project aims to promote mindful travel by offering an immersive audio journey through Wales’s most scenic landscapes.
The series debuted on January 25, St Dwynwen’s Day, Wales’s national day of love. It consists of six short meditative episodes. Each one blends natural soundscapes, ambient music, and evocative narration to create a “multi-sensory escape.”

An Audio Journey Through Iconic Landscapes

The podcasts are narrated by BBC Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri. Her voice guides listeners through a sensory tour of six distinct Welsh locations. These include the dramatic Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsula and the serene lavender fields of mid Wales.
Other featured spots are Pen y Pass in Eryri National Park and the woodlands of Cwmcarn Forest. Listeners can also visit Wern-y-Cwm Farm, Cardiff Bay, and more. The audio blends wind, water, birdsong, and gentle music with elements of the Welsh language.

Part of a Broader ‘Hwyl’ Campaign

This initiative is part of Visit Wales’s broader “Hwyl” tourism campaign. “Hwyl” is a Welsh word describing a stirring emotional spirit. The campaign focuses on emotional connection and wellbeing over traditional sightseeing.
The goal is to allow people to experience Wales in a different way. It uses sound to evoke a sense of place before or during a visit. Consequently, it creates a deeper, more meaningful connection with the destination.

A Shift Toward Restorative Travel

Officials say the project reflects growing tourist interest in mindful experiences. Destination marketing is shifting from simple promotion to creating emotional bonds. The podcast invites global listeners to pause, breathe, and connect with Wales through stillness.
Short films accompany the audio episodes on platforms like YouTube. The podcasts are available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. This launch represents an innovative step in using storytelling to showcase a country’s spirit to the world.
