London Measles Outbreak: Unvaccinated Children Face Exclusion

Parents in north London have received a stark warning. Their children could face school exclusion over measles. This comes amid a serious outbreak of the highly contagious disease Enfield Council sent a letter to all parents in late January. It outlined new measures following national health guidelines. Unvaccinated pupils identified as close contacts of measles cases could be excluded for 21 days.

Outbreak Numbers Cause Concern

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported concerning figures. At least 34 children have caught measles in Enfield this year. A number of those cases required hospital treatment. Therefore, the situation is being taken very seriously by health officials.

Health Officials Express Worry

A local health chief spoke to the BBC about the outbreak. They stated, “We are worried because actually, this is a significantly increased number than what we’re used to.” As a result, the London measles outbreak exclusion policy aims to stop further spread.Parents are urged to check their children’s vaccination status. Getting vaccinated protects both individual children and the wider community.
