Macao International Travel Expo Returns as Visitor Numbers Top 40 Million
The 14th Macao International Travel Expo (MITE) returns this week. The event will open its doors from April 10 to 12, 2026. It takes place at The Venetian Macao Cotai Expo. The theme for this year is “Global Convergence, Future Horizons.”
The three-day event expects over 700 exhibitors from 58 countries. More than 600 hosted buyers will also attend. The expo spans 30,000 square metres with around 1,500 booths. MITE continues to be one of Asia’s leading travel trade platforms.
A Strategic Moment for Macao Tourism
This year’s expo comes at a pivotal time for Macao. The city recorded over 40 million visitor arrivals in 2025. This surpasses pre-pandemic levels. It confirms a strong recovery trajectory.
The expo will play a key role in diversifying source markets. It will also strengthen international tourism flows.
Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of MGTO, highlighted the expo’s importance. “MITE will once again strive to solidify the city’s advantages as a platform,” she said. The event fosters connections between Macao, mainland China, and international markets.
This year’s edition will showcase multi-destination opportunities. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a key focus. China’s visa-free policies will help attract international travellers.
A Global Platform for Collaboration
MITE 2026 has growing international reach. Highlights include the “2026 China-Spain-Portugal Tourism Product Promotion Seminar.” This reflects Macao’s role as a connecting platform. It links China with Portuguese-speaking countries and global markets.
The expo encourages travel professionals to integrate Macao into regional itineraries. The destination combines well with neighbouring cities across southern China.
Alex Lao, President of Macau Travel Agency Association, noted the event’s impact. “MITE has become one of the most iconic events,” he said. It attracts over 10,000 exhibitors, buyers, and visitors annually. Online impressions exceed 10 million.
Driving Higher Value Tourism
The expo promotes higher value tourism segments. Culture, gastronomy, heritage, and events are key areas. Macao is increasingly seeking to differentiate itself in these fields.
New thematic zones will debut this year. The Tourism Technology Exhibition Hall is one example. The Low Altitude Economy Pavilion is another. The Silk Road Halal Products Pavilion reflects a push for inclusivity.
The event ties into wider international dynamics. Macao will host the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting in June 2026. This further reinforces the city’s role on the global stage.
A Platform for Business and Consumers
MITE remains open to the public with free admission. Visitors can access discounted travel products. Hotel stays, air tickets, and holiday packages are available. Promotional incentives include instant discount vouchers. A large-scale prize draw adds excitement.
Free shuttle services and parking facilities ensure accessibility. Strong local participation will accompany international attendance.
With record visitor figures already achieved, Macao’s outlook is positive. The 14th MITE reflects the city’s recovery. It is also a forward-looking statement of global ambitions.
