Macron Hosts Kyiv Security Talks as Ukraine Ceasefire Plans Gain Momentum
The Kyiv security talks moved forward as French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Ukraine’s leader to Paris. Volodymyr Zelensky joined senior allies as discussions focused on protecting Ukraine after a possible ceasefire. These talks come as diplomatic efforts gain fresh urgency.
More than 30 countries sent leaders or senior officials to the meeting. They form the so-called Coalition of the Willing. Their shared goal is to agree on firm security guarantees for Kyiv.
Allies Push for Post-War Guarantees
Macron hosted the gathering at a critical moment. Leaders want clear plans ready if fighting with Russia pauses. Therefore, discussions centred on defence support, long-term stability, and international commitments.
US representatives also attended the talks. Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner joined as mediators linked to Washington’s peace efforts. Their presence signalled growing US engagement in shaping a settlement.
Zelensky arrived in Paris after meeting US President Donald Trump. He said his peace plan was close to completion. In fact, he claimed the proposal was about 90% agreed.
Russia Yet to Respond Positively
However, challenges remain. The proposed guarantees have not yet reached Moscow. As a result, Russia has not offered any formal response.
So far, signals from the Kremlin appear discouraging. Officials in Kyiv and Europe remain cautious. They know negotiations may still face delays or resistance.
Despite this, leaders stressed unity and persistence. They believe shared pressure could help move talks forward. In addition, they see strong alliances as key to lasting peace.
The Paris meeting highlighted growing coordination among Ukraine’s supporters. It also showed rising urgency to act before events on the ground change again.
For now, the Kyiv security talks continue behind closed doors. Many hope the next phase will bring clearer answers and renewed momentum.
